All Stars (ages 5-8) and Dynamos (8-11) are the ECB's national entry programmes. For many children, their first experience of cricket. They're delivered not by qualified coaches but by Activators: volunteers, often parents, recruited on the explicit understanding that no cricket expertise is required.

Shot over two days in Portsmouth in 2025 and released in 2026, the series covers eight activities - four for Dynamos, four for All Stars - each given 60 to 90 seconds. Every film has a single job: an Activator watches it, and by the end knows how to run that activity themselves, and how to progress it if the group takes to it quickly.

 

There's no assumed knowledge to lean on. You can't shortcut with coaching language, because the audience doesn't have it. Each film has to carry the whole thing - setup, rules, demonstration, progression - to someone who may well be watching on their phone in a car park, ten minutes before twenty children arrive.

 

That constraint shaped every decision: what to show and what to cut, how long to hold a demonstration, where words help and where they just get in the way. Get it right and a volunteer walks onto the field confident. Get it wrong and twenty children stand around waiting.

 

This is the kind of work we think video is genuinely best at. The strongest evidence for video as a learning tool sits in skills and demonstration rather than in transmitting information - and this is demonstration, stripped of everything that isn't essential.
